What is the value of social media and why do brands need it?
Working in marketing for the past 15 years, often my boss just never fully understood the value of social media and its importance. When I first started implementing social media into my marketing strategy, not many companies had adopted social media in their marketing mix. In fact, there were no set roles either in companies for a social media manager. This was a new form of media that marketing managers, directors, and even the President had to get involved in, and come up with strategies on how to include social media into their traditional communication channels. It was an exciting time because I had an open slate, but it was also a very difficult time. During this transition period, not only did I have to be self taught on the subject, but I had to convince my boss and colleagues of the importance that social media had on the brands notoriety, image and customer service. Even though social media has come a long way since then, it is astounding how many businesses and marketers are still marching on with their old school traditional marketing methods. If you are a social media manager, community manager, blogger, or generally use social media in your every day work, then you will understand the importance and value of social media today.
