The new changing room selfie has emerged, as the majority of people today will seek the approval from others before making a purchase. Posted on Instagram, Facebook or even Twitter. They often await 3 or more likes and exchange reviews or commentary before making a purchasing decision. Twitter Chelfie’s alone increased 2x in the last three months. This trend has been adopted equally by men and women.
Did you know that 340,076 photos were shared on Instagram during New York Fashion Week this year, an increase of 193% over the September 2014 show. An important marketing trend that is increasing the value fashion fans are finding in the image platform. With Instagram photos increasingly becoming gateways to ecommerce sites, brands will lose the opportunity to drive qualified traffic and revenue to their pages if they don’t get onboard. Examples of successful brands that are implementing this trend are @MichaelKors: Embrace the power of hashtags, @marianodivaio: Offer a peek behind the scenes, @kourtneykardash: Tap a celeb. Like2Buy is a platform that is helping turn that engagement into revenue, helping brands do just that. Like2Buy makes Instagram a shoppable channel, turning feeds into purchasable galleries.
Periscope is a free live-streaming mobile app that allows users to view and broadcast “scopes” from around the world in real-time. Anyone can stream a live video through their mobile device and viewers can watch these live scopes on the app or Periscope website. Periscope joined Twitter in January of 2015 and was then purchased for $100 million and re-launched in March for iOS. An Android app was released in late May. If Marketers aren’t on Periscope yet then they are about to miss a golden opportunity. Live streaming is predicted to play a major roll in the future of social media! Plus, the business application and community building possibilities are only limited to your imagination because of the live video and real-time engagement pieces.
